TED.com: "Our mission: Spreading ideas." Just discovered this (free subscription) site, and wow! "TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader....The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes). This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. More than 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted." Check out TED's theme site for How We Learn: "Teachers of all kinds can find fresh resources--and inspiration--in this batch of TEDTalks. Some talks may shake your worldview...others celebrate the extraordinary power of teachers and schools--and share ways you can help them. Look here for pointers to amazing classroom tools and techniques." 09/22/08 SmartTeaching.org: "...a leading online resource for current teachers, and aspiring education students and student teachers." My title link is to their library of Teaching Resources & Articles. Most of those are about teacher training and teaching career resources. But also check out their blog, chock full of tips-n-tricks, tutorials, and more. For example, here's a list of titles in the August/08 archives (so far):
Performance Learning Systems: "The mission of Performance Learning Systems, Inc. is to enhance education through the development of educational services. These services, designed to increase the effectiveness of educators and others who support excellence in education, include: seminars, Graduate courses, Consulting services, Quality instructional materials." ION has been developing these resources since the mid 1990's... This is not a comprehensive search engine of links to online education information but rather a comprehensive collection of documents produced by ION along with some selected outside links when they are found to be exemplary to the information needed (especially in IP and Online Ed Info sections)." 10/23/05 BC Learning Marketplace & Expo: A new K-12 online community sponsored and run by BC Campus. I encourage you to visit, look around, become a member (it's free and easy), sign up for the email weekly activity updates. They have some excellent webcasts, discussion forums, and here's something fun -- there are online meeting rooms and virtual offices that you can use with your colleagues any time. "Have you implemented an effective practice related to managing or using information technology on your campus or used technology effectively to solve a problem? Or are you looking for a solution to an IT-related challenge and wondering how your colleagues are addressing the same challenge?" Check it out; it's well indexed by category. 07/09/01 |
